Belgium campus addresses ICT shortages

The Information and Communications Technology ICT industry is a rapidly growing sector for employment. New data shows that South Africa faces a growing ICT skills crisis of immense proportions. According to the 2016 JCSE ICT Skills Survey, 71% of businesses reported a skills shortage which is negatively impacting their businesses while as much as 29% say it is a threat to their viability.

Belgium Campus delivers 10% of all IT graduates in South Africa annually. These graduates receive 5 job offers on average upon graduation. Recently, representatives from companies such as Mercedes Benz, BMW and FNB to mention a few, visited Belgium Campus to head hunt students to join their organisations as interns.

Brendon Paul, the Operations Director at Sybrin, South Africa applauded Belgium Campus students as he said they were a multidisciplinary group that is dedicated, resourceful and passionate about their careers in the ICT industry. “We have about 29 students from Belgium Campus and I must say most of them are performing exceptionally well. Over the years I have noticed that the students possess high-end SQL skills compared to other universities,” said Brendon

“Belgium Campus is producing young people who can actually do the job. They hit the ground running and that is exactly what we need in the ICT industry because the demand is too high there is no time to train employees at work,” said Grant Pentelow, the technical training manager at FNB who also reports that from about 900 employees in his department, 6% are Belgium Campus graduates.

Belgium Campus is an ITversity which provides the ICT industry with highly qualified and experienced Information Technology personnel through the provision of high quality, practice-orientated education and training of an international standard.
