Three arrested for corruption

Three members of the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) were arrested for corruption on Tuesday.

One is an active member of the Student Representative Council and the other two are former TUT students.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the three allegedly demanded R100 000 from a security company owner in exchange for extending the company’s contract at the institution.

“The National Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit and Crime Intelligence Unit got hold of the information and an undercover operation was instituted. The three were arrested shortly after receiving R40 000 in cash,” said Mulaudzi.

They will appear before the Specialised Commercial Crime Court in Pretoria on Thursday.
