R55 motorists warned against picking up hitchhikers

Police have cautioned motorists driving on the R55 to avoid picking up hitchhikers.

This comes after cases of hijacking were recently reported near Olivenhoutbosch.

In the most recent case, on Sunday, a man in his forties was robbed of his white Mercedes-Benz C-Class after he picked up two women who pretended to be stranded.

Police said the victim was knocked unconscious and woke up in Akasia hospital the following day.
