Laudium man stabbed during robbery

A Laudium man walking home from work on Wednesday morning was stabbed by an assailant for his cellphone.

Police said, Morne Gouws was approached by a man who tried to rob him of his cellphone when a scuffle broke out and the suspect stabbed him several times with a sharp object.

Police spokeswoman Augustinah Selepe said the suspect then fled the scene.

“The suspect had tried to rob the victim of his cell phone. The victim, Mr Gouws, resisted and a struggle ensued. The suspect then fled the scene,” said Selepe.

Selepe said the man was receiving medical attention at the Kalafong Hospital in Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria, and a manhunt for the suspect was launched.

“A case of attempted murder is under investigation. Anyone with information to assists in apprehending the suspect, may contact their nearest police station,” said Selepe.
