An armed gang is at large after they robbed a Vodacom store at Mall@Reds in Centurion on Thursday morning.

One of the robbers was dressed in Vodacom T-shirts and gained entry into the store just before it opened, Orange Fox Security spokesperson Vanessa Jacobs said.

She said the robbers also assaulted the security guard near the store.

“They ordered staff into an office at the back of the store and told them to lie on the ground.”

The men filled a trolley with cellphone and other goods, she said.

“They fled the shop using the assaulted guard as a shield up to the gate, then escaped in two vehicles.”

Jacobs said about four to six armed men were involved in the robbery.

“No one but the guard was injured. It seems the trend of robbing malls and cellphone stores is back.”

Police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said the gang fled with cellphones valued at more than R900 000.

“Police are busy scrutinising video footage. The suspects fled the scene in a blue Toyota Corolla with an unknown registration number. The second vehicle is unknown.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Wierdabrug police on 012 654 3131 or Crime Stop Line on 08600 10111.
