Flooding is expected across Pretoria throughout the week, Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Johan Pieterse said on Tuesday.

“Heavy rains with a potential of flash floods are expected in some parts of Gauteng especially in Tshwane from this afternoon and will carry on up to the weekend,” said Pieterse.

This comes after the SA Weather Service issued a severe weather warning on Tuesday.

He said advised to avoid low-lying areas when there is continuous rainfall.

“Keep your car’s headlights on, avoid low water bridges and reduce your speed. A good rule of thumb is if you can’t see the road surface, do not drive across it as your car may wash away,” he said.

Centurion was hit by flash floods at the end of February, blocking several roads.

Pieterse said residents can also call 10177 or 012-310-6300/6400 for assistance in emergencies.
