A Centurion man fell victim to a brutal knife attack at a shopping centre in Highveld on Friday night.

Frans Maritz (58), was beaten and stabbed by three men in the parking lot of the centre after leaving the Spar at the Highveld Shopping Centre just after 19:00.

Maritz’s daughter, Chantal de Jager, said her father had just left the store when three men stopped him by his car, demanding he hand over his wallet and phone.

“One guy then got into his car, but before anything else they started stabbing him,” said De Jager.

“They stabbed him in his side, underneath his arm, first. They then stabbed him in his jaw before cutting open his face from mouth across his nose.”

The attackers fled without taking anything.

De Jager said her father was discharged from hospital on Monday.

“My father is still in shock after the attack. He is a diabetic and we don’t want him to go into diabetic shock, so we are trying to keep him as calm as possible,” said De Jager.

She said her father is yet to open a case with police.

“As soon as he is ready and able to give a clear description of these three men, we will go to the police.
