Policeman killed in the north

A police official was shot and killed last week at the Winterveld Mohlambe stand, Mabopane, north of Pretoria.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Thembi Nowathe confirmed that Sergeant Peter Modiegi Mogotlane’s (35) died on Friday night, 30 December.

According to a police statement, Mogotlane was on his way home from work and stopped at a shop where he was attacked by two unknown men.

The men allegedly grabbed him from behind and took his service firearm with which they shot him.

“He was shot eight times in the upper and lower body and was later declared dead on the scene,” read the statement.

Mogotlane was stationed at Bryntirion PSS.

“His bag containing his wallet and appointment certificate was also taken from him.”

A case of murder has been opened at Loate police station for further investigation.
