Centurion resembled an action movie scene as the police and security firms pursued criminals in Clubview on Wednesday afternoon.

Copwatch security manager Bertus Myburgh said his security officers, the Wierdabrug police and flying squad, ADT, Scorpion security, Monitor Net and Centurion Concerned Citizens (CCC) all assisted in the pursuit of two suspected burglars.

Myburgh said the police issued an alert about two men involved in a burglary around 14:00.

“Copwatch, the flying squad and the Wierdabrug police responded to the burglary scene in Tipperary Street, Bronberrik,” said Myburgh.

He said the burglars were still in the yard.

“The men jumped over the back wall into Old Johannesburg Road to escape with the police and Copwatch in pursuit.”

He said residents pointed the search party to a red minibus taxi, into which the men had climbed.

The minibus was stopped and one of the men was apprehended while the other made a run of it.

The police and security companies pursued the man towards Eldoraigne until he was found hiding in a tree.

His leg was bleeding.

“He was treated then taken to the Wierdabrug police station were he and his partner would await a court date.”

It was believed he had been injured jumping over barbed wire.

Wierdabrug police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma confirmed the arrest but could not say when the men would appear in court.
