NEWSFLASH: Police vehicle hijacked during robbery in Centurion

A policeman was injured after his police vehicle was hijacked in The Reeds, Centurion, on Thursday.

According to reports, a policeman responded to a house robbery in the area.

When he arrived on the scene, the robbery was still in progress.

“A shootout between the policeman and the robbers followed,” said the Centurion Concerned Citizens (CCC).

The CCC said at least five shots were fired.

The robbers then abandoned their stolen getaway vehicle and hijacked the police vehicle, said the organisation.

The CCC said the policeman was injured during the hijacking.

“Two of the robbers fled on foot.”

The CCC said the police vehicle collided with another vehicle on Samrand Road after it drove recklessly and into oncoming traffic.

After the crash the robbers abandoned the police vehicle and hijacked an Audi Q5.

The Audi was later found abandoned in Ivory Park.

According to the CCC, the robbers who fled on foot shot a passerby on the R101 and robbed him of his bicycle.

No comment was received from the police at the time of going to press.
