A grade 6 learner at Bakenkop Primary School in Wierdapark has been dubbed South Africa’s young and upcoming star.

Leandri Landsberg (13) recently represented South Africa at the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles and brought home several gold, silver and bronze medals.

Director of her modelling school, Nuovo Model Academy and Model Management, Tommy Lubbe said the young talent had competed in 2015 and 2017 after placing second in the Miss Catwalk and fourth in Miss Cupcake locally.

Her mother, Rosali said Leandri was a real arty type.

“She plays the piano and guitar and excels as a model.

She wants to do everything that is glamorous,” said Rosali adding that Leandri had gotten a double dose of the artistic gene from her mother and husband’s father.

“She is a hardworking child and excels in everything she takes on. She also does very well academically.

She also made the top ten in a Ms Bakenkop competition at her school.”

This young model recently did a haute couture photo shoot at Nuovo.

“It was my first formal photo shoot, and an awesome experience. If I had the chance, I would do it all over again,” said Leandri adding that she had loved her make-up and the beautiful dresses she wore.

“It would be an understatement to say I felt like a queen, for those few hours.”

She advised young aspiring models to focus on the beauty within.

“Beauty comes from within, we are what we think and believe we are. Each and every one of us are beautiful in different ways.

A good team around you can also make a world of difference.”
