  1. With Madiba day around the corner, the Eldoraigne community of Centurion is planning outreach projects for the less fortunate.

As part of this initiative, Laerskool Bakenkop is collecting stationery and small winter accessories to donate to a pre-school in Mooiplaas.

They are collecting 50-page coloring books, packets of 12 colouring pencils, packets of 12 crayons, English children’s story books, beanie hats, scarves, fruit juice and packets of chips.

Residents and high school learners are planning a full day of activities at Eldoraigne library on 15 July.

Activities include: painting of murals by the art departments from different high schools in the area with related themes of science, history, technology, sport and culture.

Ward councillor Cindy Billson said the library was an essential part of the community and therefore it was necessary to involve it in educational outreach activities.

“We are planing to have a garden at the library. While we are celebrating Madiba day, we would also like to beautify the library,” said Billson.

“We are going to start by laying a foundation for the garden first.”

She said Eldoraigne butchery would be hosting a potjiekos competition among real estate agents, the proceeds of which would go towards buying books for both Eldoraigne and Laudium libraries.

“The street block where the library is situated will also get a facelift and we are going to need hands to help sweep and clean.”

The ceilings in the study section of the library will be replaced beforehand and the auditorium of the library will be painted by contractors donating their service and time.
