A couple returning from OR Tambo airport was robbed in Centurion on Saturday night.

Police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said the robbery occurred on the corner of Rietvlei Dam Street and Delmas Road.

“The couple was driving past that corner when a group of five armed men in a silver Mercedes-Benz forced them to stop,” said Miller.

“The men stole their luggage, cellphones and cash.”

Miller said the couple was not injured.

He said a case of robbery was being investigated and no arrests had been made.

Charl Langley, of Lyttelton Sector 4 patrol unit, said the team tried to track down the robbers.

“We arrived two minutes after the robbery and found the couple traumatised,” said Langley.

“The couple told us five armed robbers threw a brick at their car to force them to stop.”

Langley said the robbers stole belongings worth 50 000 and 7 000 US dollars in cash.

He said the couple’s cellphones were traced.
