Over 400 people arrested in Pretoria

More than 400 people were arrested by the Tshwane West cluster police in the past seven days.

The 430 perpetrators were arrested on charges ranging from hijacking and dealing in drugs to possession of suspected stolen goods, among others.

Police spokesperson, Captain Bonginkosi Msimango, said one of the major successes saw robbers arrested in Laudium on Saturday.

“The three suspects, aged 23, 33 and 36, entered a shop at Itireleng informal settlement near Laudium and robbed the shop owner at gunpoint,” said Msimango.

“They took R150 in cash and airtime valued at R500 before fleeing in a Toyota Corolla.”

He said police gave chase and managed to arrest the three men in Laudium.

Msimango said another success saw a man arrested for possession of drugs in Hercules.

“The 22-year-old man was arrested by Tshwane metro police after he was found with 18,307g of dagga worth R305 000 near the corner of Wilhelm and Bremer streets in Hercules.”

Cluster commander Major-General Tommy Mthombeni commended the police on the arrests.

Msimango said three more people were arrested by Pretoria West police on Friday after they robbed a victim of his cellphone and tile cutter in WF Nkomo Street in West Park.

“The suspects will appear in various courts within Tshwane West Cluster.”
