Part of Centurion marked as cable-theft hot spot

Valhalla in Centurion has been marked as a hot spot for cable theft, Tshwane Metro Police said.
Residents said the area has been a target for cable thieves in recent months.
A crime watch group called Centurion Concerned Citizens said although some arrests had been made, cables were stolen again last night in Oslo Road and in Christos Road.
Metro police spokesperson Nonhlanhla Mgiba said the area is now on the metro police’s radar.
“The cable theft unit has now included the Valhalla area on its hotspot list for patrolling.”
Mgiba however said the cables that were reported stolen by Centurion Concerned Citizens last night were in fact stolen two weeks ago.
“Electricity contractors were replacing the copper cable that was stolen two weeks ago. That is why the street lights were out of order yesterday.”
