NEWSFLASH: Mob justice leaves one dead near Laudium

A man was killed in a violent mob justice incident at an informal settlement near Laudium on Thursday.

The incident happened at around 10:30 in Itereleng informal settlement, according to police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto.

“Police responded to a complaint of a mob attack and the victim was found dead on the scene,” he said.

Moloto said the victim was accused of breaking into several shacks in the area.

“The victim’s body has not been identified as yet and no arrest have been made. It is also unclear what he stole before he was killed.”

Tshwane West Cluster Commander Major General Mthombeni condemned the attack.

“We urge members of the community to stop taking the law into their own hands and to work closely with their local police stations to report any criminal activities,” Mthombeni said.

“We also appeal to the residents of Itireleng to assist the police with information that could lead to the arrest of any suspects.”
