Domestic worker mastermind behind attack on Centurion elderly lady

A domestic worker pretended to water the plants in the front yard garden while her employer was tortured by several intruders.

Last week a partially disabled 57-year-old Centurion woman fought three thugs before they tied her up and ransacked her house.

The woman, who wants to remain anonymous, spoke to Rekord about the day she was tortured in her own house.

She said her domestic worker, whom she employed on a full-time basis for the past three months, were in cahoots with the three robbers.

“My domestic worker was watering plants and came inside the house to get a knife to fix something on the outside.”

The woman said she was in her sewing room when she heard footsteps behind her and turned around to see two men and another woman.

“They asked for money, which they got, but they didn’t leave it at that.”

The domestic worker, Charity Moyo.

She said she noticed they had the same knife her domestic worker took.

“That was when I knew that she was in on it,” the woman said. “She went on watering the plants outside while they were beating me up inside.”

“They strangled me, beaten me and tied me up, but I fought back as hard as I could.”

After they tied her up, the attackers went on to plunder the rest of the house.

“I managed to get loose and locked myself in the bathroom.”

The still traumatised woman said only after she heard her six-year-old grandson’s bus hooting outside, she unlocked herself from the bathroom.

“I wasn’t sure if they (the thugs) were still inside the house, but I had to go out, because my grandson knows the domestic worker and I was scared they were waiting on him.”

She said the bus driver called her family and the police.

Since the incident, it has come to light that the “other woman” is the domestic worker’s sister, both Zimbabwean nationals.

Police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe confirmed the domestic worker, Charity Moyo and her sister were arrested on Monday and appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court.

The men, their boyfriends, are still at large, said Selepe.
