The suspects were also in the possession of implements used for breaking into houses.

The operation started in the early hours of Friday morning and targeted empty PRASA houses in the Irene train station area.

Police spokesman Dave Miller said the suspects will be profiled to establish if they can be linked to any other cases reported around the area.

Lyttelton station commander Daniel Phogole warned that the operation is just the beginning and that “criminals will feel the heat in the Lyttelton policing area.”
