Public Protector to release report on Mandela funeral misappropriation of funds

A report on the misappropriation of funds related to Nelson Mandela’s funeral will be released today by public protector advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane.

The former president died in early December four years ago.

The probe into how money for his funeral was used was opened by former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela last year.

This was after an audit finding that could not account for R6 million of the R10 million budget for the funeral.

An Eastern Cape mayor, deputy mayor and the council speaker have already been arrested for their involvement.

The report will be made public at the office of the public protector in Pretoria at 14:00.
