There is a possibility of water cuts in Rooihuiskraal and Louwlardia after a burst water pipe nearly emptied the local reservoir.

“The Rooihuiskraal reservoir level is now at about 25 percent, which is worrying,” said Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.

The metro was, however, doing all within its power to ensure that the reservoir does not run dry, Mashigo said.

“Roaming water tankers will be arranged to supply residents with water in case the situation does not improve.”

The metro said the burst pipe belonged to Rand Water, the utility company that supplies water to the Tshwane municipality among others.

“A team of Rand Water plumbers has been hard at work repairing the affected pipeline since yesterday,” Mashigo said.

Residents were advised that upon completion of the above-mentioned work – and depending on water consumption rates – it may take up to six hours before the reservoir was filled to acceptable levels again.

“We appeal to all affected residents to conserve and use water sparingly at all times.”
