More ‘bobbies on the beat’ for Lyttelton

Police and security agencies in Centurion worked together over the festive season to ensure the safety of residents and visitors during the holidays.

But public drinking and driving under the influence of alcohol remained the biggest problems in the area.

Lyttelton police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said 15 operations were held and 32 people were arrested for consuming alcohol in public, driving under the influence, robberies and possession of car break-in tools.

“We would like to once again emphasise our commitment to reducing the crime rate in our area, as well as to take this opportunity to publicly thank all our members who were working over the festive season to ensure that our community remained safe,” said Miller.

He said 2018 was off to a good start as the Lyttelton police station recently received additional members – 32 constables.

Miller said the new members would be instrumental in combating crime in the area.

“With the added manpower, there will be a dedicated crime prevention unit in our area.

The Lyttelton police would like to let our community know that our commitment in 2018… our number one priority, would be to combat crime,” said Miller.
