School celebrates ‘Founders Day’

Live couch session with the matrics

On 1 March, Southdowns College celebrated its 11th anniversary with robust pride, unity and of course tasty treats.

“Our learners make our school what it is, and if we take a moment and consider how far the school has come in 11 years, we can undoubtedly say it is our learners who have enabled it to flourish,” says Kgomotso Motlogeloa, senior deputy head of the school.

As a part of the celebrations at the school, a group of matrics, ranging from pioneers (a learner who has attended the school from grade 1) to those who joined the school in Grade 8 or later, presented a live couch session, similar to that of a talk show.

The atmosphere in the hall was electric as the matrics relayed their schooling highlights and what they valued the most – most notably the unity among the learners at the school and the comradeship among the grades.

This resonated with the crowd given the unified roars and song that followed.
