VIDEO: Lyttelton police nab suspect linked to 23 cases

The Hendrik Verwoerd Bridge in Centurion is a crime hotspot area.

A man arrested for the robbery of a Centurion elderly couple could face an additional 23 charges.

Police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said when a background check was done on the man, he was linked to other active police investigations including armed robbery, car theft, house break-in and house robbery.

Miller said the suspect was arrested on Tuesday in possession of stolen property – a handbag reported stolen during the elderly couple’s robbery in Lyttelton.

Miller said when the police’s local crime record centre (LCRC) processed man’s fingerprints, it linked him to these unsolved cases.

The man will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.

“Technology plays a huge role in processing data that could lead to positive convictions against criminals,” he said adding that the LRCR played a vital role in this regard.

“At this stage, the suspect can only be linked to those cases and this does not necessarily mean he will be charged for them.”
