The Tshwane West police cluster arrested 66 people in the Pretoria CBD at the weekend, said spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma.
Huma said the “back to basics approach” of “more police visibility, foot patrols and stop and searches” had netted the 66 suspects for “crimes ranging from house robbery and possession of a stolen motor vehicle to shoplifting and possession of dagga among others”.
Huma said the 66 would appear in different magistrates’ courts soon.
Cluster commander Brigadier Joel Phukubye applauded the team’s success.
“We are committed to fighting crime and in full force on tracking down the perpetrators of crime. We will keep on doing stop and search and roadblocks to prevent crime in our area,” Phukubye said.
He also thanked the community for sharing valuable information with the SAPS and encouraged any criminal activity to be reported at 08600 10111.
