A 33-year-old house robber was arrested following a dramatic car chase and shootout with police in Olievenhoutbosch last week.
The man was one of four armed intruders who overpowered a resident at her home in Dawie De Villers Street in The Reeds, Centurion.
“They tied her hands and legs before covering her face,” said Wiedabrug police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma.
The four men took computer equipment and cellphones before fleeing the scene in the victim’s Mitsubishi Pajero.
A neighbour witnessed the incident and followed the stolen vehicle.
The neighbour spotted a metro police vehicle and asked them for help.
Together they chased the suspects until they reached the Olievenhoutbosh area, according to Huma.
During the chase, the suspects shot at the metro police officers and the neighbour.
The suspects pulled the vehicle off the road and fled on foot.
Three of the four men managed to escape, while one was arrested.
No one was injured in the shooting, said Huma.
Olievenhoutbosh police opened a case of attempted murder and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Huma said the arrested man was still held in custody after appearing before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court.
Acting Tshwane West cluster Commander Brigadier Joel Phukubye congratulated the SAPS, metro police and community for their roles in the incident.
