The boulder that had caused a blockage in a Centurion sewer line has been removed, a local councillor has announced.
Peter Sutton said on Friday: “The pipe was opened and the boulder removed successfully. It was quite a difficult process, but the task team has proven their efficiency.”
He said the pipe would be repaired soon.
Rekord reported two weeks ago that the boulder had been placed in the sewer between Witstinkhout and End Streets in Lyttelton.
“It seems the obstruction was deliberately placed there by drain miners, in search of jewellery or other valuable items that end up in the sewers.”
Sutton said a contractor was appointed to remove the garbage from the river under End Street in Lyttelton and Blackwood Street in Clubview.
“There are multiple projects in place to rehabilitate the river. This is just the beginning,” said Sutton.
