Concerned residents of Laezonia in Centurion want the R511 road made safe.
“We were shocked to witness during an oversight visit to the area two vehicles including a truck nearly colliding because of a lack of stop signs and robots,” said Nel.
He said the road was in a terrible condition “in dire need of maintenance”.
The residents say up to three accidents occurred on this busy road a day.
“There has been an increase in traffic volume on this road while the M14 was being upgraded,” said Nel.
“We demand that this road be upgraded as a matter of urgency as it poses a danger to both motorists and pedestrians.”

He said the DA proposed the provincial department of roads and transport consider erecting robots, speed humps and a pedestrian crossing to ensure the safety of motorists.
“We will be submitting the petition on behalf of the residents to MEC Ismail Vadi…put pressure on him to ensure this road is attended to as the lives of our people are being put in danger on a daily basis.”
Resident Lauren Gander said she had sent numerous emails to Vadi to get him to attend to the road.
She said she started writing after her daughter, Teeghan Gander had a near-fatal accident on the R511/N14 off-ramp.
“It is now more than 5 months since the accident and absolutely no road safety measures of any kind have been put in place,” she wrote to Vadi.
“This simply cannot be allowed to continue.
Road users have a right to use these intersections safely and the community should be assured that their loved ones are going to reach their destinations safely.
What can we do to assist you or those responsible for the implementation of road safety interventions?”
