A shootout between private security companies and a suspected burglar in Wierda Park ensued on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred at around 15:56 near the corner of Goshawk and Senekal streets.
Hannes du Buisson of Centurion Concerned Citizens said the organisation received a call from one of its members who saw two people attempting to break into a house in the area.
“Several security companies including Monitor Net and CopWatch were called to the scene and the police were also alerted,” said Du Boisson.
When security officers arrived at the scene the suspects fired shots at them. The suspects fled the scene but one of them was attacked by a dog.
“The suspect proceeded to hide in a yard where he was then apprehended. A police helicopter was also dispatched to look for the second suspect,” said Du Buisson.
Besides the dog bite no other injuries were reported.
Constable Tumisang Moloto of the police confirmed that a 24-year-old was arrested for house robbery and theft.
“The second suspect has not been arrested yet but we are pursuing him,” said Moloto.
