Young Irene cyclist Azulde Britz is proud to have been named a brand ambassador for leading specialist bike part importer, Positive Sports Solutions.
Britz has been a leading rider in the Gauteng Schools Spur series for the past five years and was also the Gauteng women’s captain last year.
Speaking to Rekord on Monday, the 17-year-old Cornwall Hill College learner said she was excited about her new role.
“It’s a privilege to be working with this incredible brand,” she said.
“I now have new opportunities and a group of people who make sure I get the best equipment and become the best I can possibly be.”
Britz, who is an all-round cyclist, started cycling with her dad when she was nine.
At 14, she started participating in regional and national championships.
Although Britz specialises in road cycling, she’s also equally adept on the mountain bike and has travelled to Europe to participate in world road championships.
“The biggest highlights of my career include winning the SA cross-marathon championship in the youth category in 2016 and racing for both Team HEAD/Ciclo [based in German] in 2017 and Team RYGTER [based in Denmark] in Europe earlier this year.”
Britz said she wants to race internationally again and be selected for the national team for the world road championships in Austria in September this year.
Brits, who’s in matric, plans to study a BA in Psychology next year at the University of Pretoria.
“As much as I love cycling, I think education is more important. I still have a lot of time to venture into cycling after my studies and I feel like these days, you can’t only rely on your talent, you also need something to fall back on.”
Positive Sports Solutions said they felt the talented Britz would make a positive contribution to their brand.
“We see it as the perfect opportunity to have a young, upcoming female cyclist promoting our brands, including a HEAD bike [with Trenton V specs), Westfalia, Controltech and Gipiemme,” the company said.
“This gives us a chance to work with one of the country’s most talented young riders to help her to achieve her goals.”
Positive Sports Solutions distributes bikes, bike carriers, wheels and bike components.
Britz will represent Positive Sports Solutions at all the races in which she participates until August 31 next year.
