The garbage underneath Lyttelton Road bridge in Clubview is not getting any better, a resident says.
In fact, Charl Niehaus believes the situation is only becoming worse.
In August Rekord reported that plastic, sewage, rubbish and broken branches had dammed up under the bridge.
Niehaus warned that the garbage would eventually lead to increased flooding, especially with the coming rain season.
“It seems this problem is just not being addressed,” said Niehaus.
Niehaus said the smell was “unbearable”.
“As a resident of this area I am very concerned. This is a massive health risk,” said Niehaus.
Another concern for Niehaus was the water flowing from the Hennops river to the Hartebeespoort dam.
“I once again feel responsibility is being passed on by authorities,” said Niehaus.

“Everyone wants someone else to sort out the problem and we as residents are the ones who are suffering.”
Ward councillor Peter Sutton earlier said the metro could only clean the area around the river as the river itself was the department of water affairs’ responsibility.
