Video footage show Centurion robbery in progress

Five heavily-armed men, who robbed a Total filling station in The Reeds at the weekend, were still at large on Wednesday and Wierdabrug police urged anyone with useful information on them to come forward.

Rekord is in possession of video footage that show the robbers pulling up in front of the filling station on Sunday and entering the shop.

The robbers forced everyone in the shop to lie face down on the floor. A few seconds later the robbers bombed the drop safe, cleaned out the tills and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

An eyewitness, who asked not be named, said everyone had to lie down on the floor while the robbers cleaned out the till drawers. “After only a few minutes, which felt like a lifetime, there was a loud bang and smoke quickly filled the store.”

Captain Thomas Mufamadi, police spokesperson, said a second similar robbery occurred at an Engen filing station around midnight on Sunday in Olievenhoutbosch.

He said the robberies had a similar modus operandi and might be connected.
