Olievenhoutbosch police issued a warning of crime hotspots which have been identified after numerous cases had been reported at the Centurion police station in recent weeks.

Olievenhoutbosch police spokesperson Malefu Makena said after numerous cases were opened, police identified a pattern in locations and crimes. They listed the following areas as potential crime hotspots.

Extension 36 in Olievenhoutbosch was identified as a hotspot after more the ten canopies and some tyres were reported stolen. He said four males driving a white Toyota Hilux were suspected to be involved in these thefts.

“One of the four men is allegedly armed with a firearm,” said Makena.

He said smash-and-grab crimes have increased on the N14, R55, and between Samrand and the N1 in Centurion where attackers use spark plugs to break vehicle windows and snatch valuables such as handbags, laptops, and cellphones.

“This happens between 18:45 and 23:00,” he said.

Makena said prostitution-linked thefts have been reported on Summit, Tulip and Boundary roads. These thefts have spiked a trail of robberies where people are robbed of their personal valuables by prostitutes.

“Four unidentified prostitutes wait for unaware patrons, and as soon as the client is alone with the prostitute the other three prostitutes pounce on the unaware individual and rob them of personal belongings such as cellphones.

“Residents are warned to be aware of these crime hotspots,” Makena said.
