Centurion sportsman dies in Mozambique

Johan Westervelt (30), a kickboxing champion from Centurion tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident in Mozambique on Friday.

According to Daleen Coetzee, a family member, Westervelt was touring the country on a motorcycle.

He evidently died when his motorcycle veered off the road and allegedly slid on sand.

According to Coetzee the exact details of the accident and funeral arrangements are not clear yet.

Westervelt won the WKF World Championships in 2014 and was active in the South African kickboxing community.

He was also a contender in the Bar One Man Hunt Challenge, a reality TV series seeking the “most rugged” man in South Africa.

Coetzee says he touched many lives and made a massive difference wherever he went.

“At only 30-years-old he did more that we would have done in 10 lifetimes.”
