Police warn of increase in motor vehicle thefts in Centurion.

An alarming trend of an increase of vehicle theft in Centurion had been picked up by the police who, with Centurion Concerned Citizens (CCC) warned residents and motorists to be vigilant.

On Saturday a woman was shot in both legs in an attempted hi-jacking in Wierda Park.

OrangeFox spokesperson Vanessa Jacobs said the robbers had fired a shot through the window when the woman would not open the door.

The men fled the scene with the woman’s personal belongings after a neighbour pressed a panic button to call for help.

On Friday a vehicle was reported stolen at Laerskool Wierda Park. According to CCC, the vehicle was recovered in Heuweloord the following day.  Police at the scene said more details would follow after investigations.

Police confirmed another theft of a silver Toyota Tazz, registration CMJ770L and said the vehicle had been stolen on the corner of Jean Avenue and Gerhard Street in Lyttelton, Centurion.

A man was found unconscious and remained in hospital after he had been hi-jacked on Thursday in Midrand.

Promise Mokhube (36) was taken hostage in a hi-jacking on Thursday night.

According to CCC, Mohkube was allegedly found unconscious and badly beaten up and was still being treated in hospital.

Spokesperson Hannes Du Buisson said more information would follow.

Police confirmed a VW Polo was hi-jacked by four armed men in a driveway on Bergen Road, Valhalla Centurion last week.

The men allegedly fled in a silver Toyota Corolla towards the R55 according to CCC.
