Help is on its way to free a horse stuck in the mud in the Hennops River after the heavy rains on Wednesday night.

Ward councillor Ina Strijdom told Rekord on Thursday that the horse, which belonged to a Eldo Lakes Estate, Glen Lauriston resident, was standing still in the river not far from the estate.

“The water is a high as the horse’s stomach,” she said.

“Its owner is at the scene and the Tshwane disaster management team is on its way to assist.”

She said it did not appear as if the horse was in any immediate danger, but efforts were being made to free it as soon as possible.

It is not known how long the horse has been stuck.
